Historical Context in the media
In this poster, there is clear historical context that allows the reader to understand how codes and conventions have continued or changed over the past.
one simple convention is the date, this is a convention as it is still used today to mark a time point as to when the magazine was distributed.
The picture depicts 6 well dressed young men who are learning mechanics, this is very stereotypical of the times and can be a code as it portrays the mechanics industry as intellectual and male dominated. This would be different in today's climate.
As they are dressed in fine clothing, it instantaneously gives the reader the idea that the mechanics are of higher class and importance
A convention would be the car as it is expected to be featured on a magazine targeting motorists and self learning mechanics.
The front cover of this magazine is ultimately a metaphor for itself as it depicts a man teaching men about mechanics and that is what the magazine is aiming to do.
